Poly, designed by Karim Rashid for Bonaldo, celebrates its 10-year anniversary.

The Poly chair was presented for the first time at the 2007 Salone del Mobile and it was the result of a project which engaged the brand and the designer, Karim Rashid, for a good two years. Throughout this design process, three different prototypes were manufactured, in order to achieve the utmost level of comfort in the seat and the perfect degree of inclination in the backrest, and multiple tests were conducted to assess the mechanical resistance of the chair.

The name Poly derives from "polycarbonate", the material used to make the entire chair via injection moulding.

The principal characteristic of this chair is its geometric design, a typical trait in designs by Karim Rashid that Bonaldo was well able to incorporate into its collection of seats. The seat and backrest are made up of several criss-crossing surfaces, yet overall, the chair does not appear at all "edgy": indeed, it is inviting and welcoming, a styling impression that is confirmed by the comfortable seat.

In 2015 Bonaldo presented a restyled version of Poly, supplementing it with the Poly XO and Poly XOXO versions: Poly XO is entirely upholstered with fabric, leather or eco-leather covers, whereas Poly XOXO envisages a two-tone upholstery where one colour can be applied to the front and another to the rear and legs.

Poly is stackable, stable and resistant to atmospheric agents, which means the non-upholstered version can also be used outdoors. It is made in several colours and finishes: transparent, smoked or glossy black or white for the non-upholstered version; for the Poly XO and Poly XOXO versions, several upholstery covers are available from the Bonaldo fabric sample set.

The chair has been a success at international level. Shortly after it was launched in 2007, Poly won the Red Dot Design Award and the Good Design Award, two well-known and popular acknowledgements that guarantee excellence in a product's quality and design.

It has also been picked for multiple projects, both residential and contract, and installations all over the world.
